Atlanta's Best Holiday Cocktails

#repost drinkup_atlanta_preview.png

’Tis the season. For what you may ask? Cocktails. We did some “research” on the best spots to find holiday cocktails so you don’t have to!

PURE Taqueria

First came the Pumpkin Spice Margarita, a huge favorite of ours. Then came the Holiday Spice Margarita. It’s the delicious sister margarita you never knew you needed. You may think to yourself, “tequila for the holidays”? Yes. Thank us later.

Whiskey Bird

Sharing is caring this holiday season. Whiskey Bird’s “Punch for Two” makes it easy. Made with bourbon, blueberry and bubbly…it’s the perfect combo to make your spirit’s bright.

8arm

Rum Toddy, Warm Mulled Wine, a crazy tropical egg nog… pretty much any holiday concoction you can think of, their bartenders are making it. Not to mention their food. One word: PERFECTION.

Monday Night Brewing

Okay, okay, so not a cocktail, but they had to make the cut. Their newest location, The Garage, specializes in making sours that are to die for! Our holiday pick: the Cinnamon Cocoa Drafty Kilt. Oh yes.

Double Zero

A sister restaurant to the Iberian Pig, they have some beautifully made cocktails make you all warm and fuzzy inside. The “It’ll Fix Wassail-ing You” is served hot, made with cider, cognac, and spices… YUM. Another fav, the “Rusty Cage”, made with cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, and heaven.

Our Favorite Foodie Instagram Accounts

Sorry baseball, but for The Birds, there is no greater pastime than scrolling through insanely delicious-looking food posts on Instagram. The pictures are 100% gorgeous and 100% calorie free to look at, and thanks to Atlanta’s killer food scene, there is no shortage of ATL-based foodie accounts. We’ve made a list of our favorite food accounts that you have to starting following ASAP. Prepare to be hungry!

Celebrate National Tequila Day at PURE Taqueria

We’re about to make your Monday a whole lot better—It’s National Tequila Day!! And there’s no better place to celebrate than PURE Taqueria. So make up a good excuse for not going to work tomorrow, head to PURE and order a few rounds of our favorite tequila spiked drinks!

1. Start off with a staff favorite, the PURE Double Barrel Margarita. PURE has a hand in the making of the Herradura tequila inside, so you know it’s going to pack a serious punch.

2. If you don’t want to mess around, order the Michele Margarita. It’s a classic PURE margarita with a Lunazul and Grand Marnier floater. You’ll start to feel it about half way through your first round, which is really what National Tequila Day is all about.

3. Even if the phrase “tequila shots” makes you want to run away in terror, you’re going to love PURE’s Pineapple Shot. It’s pineapple infused with silver tequila, and it’s dangerously delicious.

Best Dog-Friendly Patios

Floataway Cafe

When you think of Floataway Cafe, your mind may immediately go to an amazing wine list and seasonally delicious dishes, but not to a place where your doggo can lounge. Well think again, fellow dog lover. The patio at Floataway is 100% dog friendly and 100% perfect for a summer evening once the sun goes down.

There is no shortage of laid-back vibes at U-Joint in Decatur. If you're looking for the ultimate chill spot with your pooch, this is it. Great pub food and a great Oakhurst location make this a top choice to bring fido.

An Inman Park favorite of ours is the One Eared Stag. Order the signature “Chef’s Breakfast” for a unique tasting of breakfast samples. The variety will be different every time, so come ready to try something new. This is a great meal to split with your mom! The silver platter also comes with a beer to complete your meal. Not a beer person? You can never go wrong with a mimosa!

Fresh MARTA Markets

It’s 5:30PM. You’re on your way home from a long day at work. You need to pick up something for dinner, but the last thing you want to do is take a detour to the grocery store. For those of us who commute on MARTA, there is a great option: Fresh MARTA Markets. In collaboration with Georgia Food Oasis, Community Farmers Markets, and SWAG, Fresh MARTA Markets offer local, fresh produce at pop-up farm stands located inside several MARTA stations throughout the week. It’s a great option for Atlanta’s busy commuters, which let’s face it is all of us. Well-sourced, healthy food shouldn’t be a luxury or a hassle to get, and with Fresh MARTA Markets it isn’t.

4 Alternatives to Pumpkin Spice Lattes

Happy first day of fall! Or as some people like to call it, Pumpkin Spice Latte Season. We love a good PSL as much as the next gal, but it tends to over shadow all that fall has to offer. We’ve decided to spread the love, and share some perfect for fall (and pumpkin free) drinks to try out this year.

1. Get a caffeine buzz and fall flavors with a Maple Cinnamon Latte. This four ingredient drink is easy to whip up at home and will give you all the cozy feelings of autumn.

2. Atlanta in the fall isn’t exactly cold, which is why we love this Pomegranate and Ginger Spritzer. It’s a departure from summer fruits and will cool you off on a balmy October day.

3. We love a good twist on a classic recipe almost as much as we love whipping out our crock pot. This Slow Cooker Cranberry Apple Cider will fill your home with the scents of fall with practically no work involved.

4. Your favorite summer cocktail got a fall makeover in this Spiced Pear Moscow Mule. Think of how cute the copper mug will look against your favorite flannel.

Best Wineries Around Atlanta

 3 Sisters Vineyard

3 Sisters Vineyard

Drive an hour and a half north of the city, and you’ll find yourself in the quite hills of Georgia’s wine country. There are so many wineries in such a small area that it’s common to (responsibly) winery hop on the weekends. However, if you’re looking to sit and sip in one place, here are a few of our favorites.

The view from the expansive porch at Frogtown Cellars and Vineyard in Dahlonega is almost as relaxing as a glass of wine. You can see rolling hills in the distance as you peer down to the grounds’ vineyard and pond. You’ll also be happy to know that Frogtown is open Monday to Sunday, so you can get your local wine fix any day of the week.

The Cottage Vineyard and Winery in Cleveland, Georgia sits on top of a hill surrounded by beautiful greenery as far as the eye can see. Head inside for an intimate tasting room that is usually bustling with people and live music. You get to choose exactly which wines you’d like to try, which range from a sweet blueberry wine to a dry Merlot.

Like a lot of wineries in North Georgia, Three Sisters Vineyard in Dahlonega has beautiful views and great wine. This summer they’ve added another treat for guests. Come in during tasting hours and enjoy “Chicks and Chocolate,” where you taste five wines paired with artisan chocolates. That is a combination we cannot say no to.

Technically Urban Tree Cidery in Atlanta is not a winery, and it’s not in north Georgia, but we make the rules so we’re including it anyway. This Westside cidery offers tastings of their house-made ciders as well as cocktails made with cider. Their wide ranging menu means there’s something for everyone.
