BOFC Travel Diary: Asheville

Brittany (the latest addition to the BOFC family!) took a beautiful trip to Asheville and is sharing all of the gorgeous, and delicious, details.

Tucked away in the North Carolina mountains, you will find the trendy, little town of Asheville. While visiting, you will find an abundance of beautiful scenery, tasty restaurants, trendy shops, countless breweries and wineries, as well as the most unique of people. Here are some of my favorite things I experienced!

1. One of my favorite parts about visiting Asheville was waking up with beautiful scenery at my back door. We decided to stay in an Airbnb close to downtown, while still tucked away in the woods. We ended up finding the most perfect, private apartment about 15 minutes from downtown and booked instantly. Getting to wake up and drink coffee with a view… what better way to start your day? I would highly recommend checking our Airbnb for a unique and sometimes cheaper stay!

2.Anyone will tell you that Asheville is known for housing some of the best food. There are several different cultural options of food to choose from, which allows you to try something new! There were so many places we wanted to try, but just didn’t have the time. We started off our Saturday with brunch at the Green Sage Café, located downtown. I ventured out and got a Huckleberry Bowl, which is essentially chia seed pudding topped with various nuts and berries—so good! Also, did you even brunch if you didn’t have a mimosa?

3.Asheville is surrounded by natural beauty everywhere you look! The North Carolina Arboretum is the perfect place to capture some of it. Even though it was still the winter season, the bare trees were very pleasing to the eye! I could imagine spring and fall bring the most incredible views while the trees are in full bloom.

4.If you’re looking for somewhere to take beautiful pictures of the mountains, riding the Blue Ridge Parkway is the best option! It runs almost 500 miles long through the Blue Ridge Mountains and includes several overlooks for stopping and enjoying the view!

5. If you’re into beer, Asheville is the perfect place for you. They don’t call it “Beer City” for nothing! Whether visiting on a tour or venturing on your own, there are tons of unique breweries to visit. We tried out Wicked Weed on night after dinner and it was well worth the hype. There are so many breweries, that you have to check out at least one while you’re visiting! For wineries, I would recommend checking out Antler Hill Winery at the Biltmore! It’s also a staple in Asheville, so take a tour of the estate while you’re there!

6.On our way home we stopped at Vortex Doughnuts for a sweet treat. They are a super trendy shop with tons of unique doughnut flavors, as well as multiple gluten free options. I went home with a chocolate cake donut and it put all of Atlanta’s doughnuts to shame. Definitely check out Vortex for your sweet tooth cravings!
