One of the best parts of living in Atlanta is exploring its many fun and vibrant neighborhoods. And one of our favorites is Decatur. Tucked to the east side of the city, Decatur has a walkable downtown, a thriving food scene, and a close knit community. It feels like a small town even though it’s minutes from Midtown. Check out a few of our favorite spots.
1. Atlanta is a city with no shortage of breweries. However, if you’re partial to Belgian brews, Three Taverns is the only one you need. At the brewery’s center, is The Parlour, an open area room with weathered wood and exposed brick that will warm the heart of any pub frequenter.
2. Revival is Kevin Gillespie’s love note to Southern, family-style food. You can start with an heirloom tomato salad, indulge in fried chicken, and end with bread pudding topped with rum raisin ice cream. It’s a Southern foodie’s delight and one of our go-to restaurants.
3. Decatur proves that you don’t need to venture outside of the perimeter to find an outstanding school. Academe of the Oaks, Georgia’s only Waldorf high school, offers hands on, experiential learning that prepares students for the complex world that lies ahead.
4. The Decatur Book Festival only comes once a year, but it’s well worth the wait. This Labor Day Weekend, book lovers can enjoy lectures, readings, and signings from over 300 local and national authors. It’s the best way to kick off the back to school season!
