If 2016 has got you down, you may be feeling a little more bah-humbug than usual. It’s totally understandable. You’re allowed to let our inner grump come out—you can’t be Buddy the Elf every year! Below are our tips on how to survive the holidays if you’re feeling like a bit of a Scrooge.
1. Go for a spa day. What’s the opposite of a cold winter day filled with holiday parties and year-end to do lists? A day at the spa. During an hour-long massage, your aunt can’t ask you if you’re seeing anyone or if you’ve figured out what you want to do with your life. And there’s no judgement during a facial treatment, only cumber water and hot towels. One of our favorite places to de-stress is at Sweet Samba.
2. Shop online. There’s no need to sit on Santa’s lap, when you can sit on your very own couch and shop. You’ll get all the holiday deals without all the holiday stress. This December, we’re serial shoppers at Grice Grove and Madewell.
3. See Oscar hopefuls early. There’s no better place to avoid bright holiday lights and Christmas carolers than in a dark, quiet movie theater. Right now there is a treasure trove of great movies out before the Academy Award nominations in January. See everything from a small indie flick to a Hollywood blockbuster at Midtown Art Cinema.
