The holidays are approaching and we're giving you our last recommendations of 2016!
Sara: I’m partial to any restaurant that is within walking distance from my place and serves up a killer Gimlet. Barcelona on the Westside fulfills both of those requirements. Top it off with a tapas menu that I have yet to have a bad dish from, and it’s an instant favorite.
Madie: When it comes to a good sub, I’m not messing around. Dave’s Cosmic Subs has a turkey sub that fulfills all my sandwich needs. The Turkey Dave may seem like your regular turkey sandwich but don’t be fooled. With the addition of banana peppers and Dave’s Cosmic Sauce, it is extra satisfying. With several more daring and out-of-the-box sandwich combinations, Dave’s Cosmic Subs is definitely a try for anyone looking to fix a sandwich craving.
Christina: If you follow the bird’s instagram then you know we’re at Proof Bakeshop a lot. And by “we," I mean “me." Counter Culture coffee, epic scones and the tomato basil soup are among the must-haves.
Sara: Oh Netflix, your ability to create binge-worthy content that I can’t help but dedicate my Saturdays to never ceases to amaze me. My latest obsession is The Crown, a retelling of the early reign of Queen Elizabeth II. There are gorgeous palaces, blinding jewels, and some of the best side eye ever captured on screen.
Madie: I don’t know about anyone else but lately all I know how to do is power up my Netflix and turn on Gilmore Girls. Most people were binge-watching before the revival was released, but not this girl. Since the revival came out, it has been constantly playing in the background of my life. Between Lorelai and Rory’s quick, witty banter and the charming little town of Star’s Hollow, watching the show is like getting a warm hug from your past.
Christina: I’m all about an HBO series and love some SJP so I’ve been really enjoying Divorce. While the subject is sort of heavy, it is loaded with sarcasm and the forever weird and awesome Thomas Haden Church.
Jessi: Home Alone 2. Home Alone 2. Home Alone 2. (drops mic)
Sara: I am a podcast junkie. They’re like serial audiobooks that I can’t get enough of. My favorite podcast, You Must Remember This, tells lesser known but endlessly interesting stories about Hollywood’s golden age. Pop in your ear buds and jump in a time machine to the glitzy past.
Madie: As cheesy as it is, I’m a sucker for some good chick-lit. Over the summer, I was able to read Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty. The book had a “shut up” ending and I truly struggled to put the book down because I wanted more. With the holidays approaching, I am gearing up to read her next book, Truly Madly Guilty. I’m hoping it has a similar storyline and will get me excited for the new HBO series based on Big Little Lies, featuring Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon.
Christina: I’m hoping to get Patti Smith’s M Train for Christmas and can’t wait to dive in. Just Kids was absolutely brilliant and I’m looking forward to reading more from Patti. She takes you on a journey through the 70s and 80s in New York City giving you a glimpse into the crossroads of art, music, and culture. I’m in. P.S. I can’t get enough of her beautiful version of Bob Dylan’s A Hard Rain’s Gonna Fall - watch it here.
Jessi: Call me shallow, but I've been reading Niomi Smart's blog and I am so into this girl. She's smart, health conscious, has beautiful style and lives in the UK. What's not to like? Outfit and recipe inspo for days.
